Data Recovery from Within Windows 7

This is going to be an invaluable disaster recovery strategy for people who need to recover accidentally deleted or crashed data from within Windows 7. This recovery is possible even for data deleted from the recycle bin.

A. Delete any files from ‘Documents’.

To start with the process I am deleting two files as indicated in step 1 & 2. Just right click on the two files and click delete.

Just click yes in case it asks for confirmation.

B. Empty the Recylce Bin.

To make sure that the file also gets deleted form the recycle bin, I am deleting it from recycle bin also. On the desktop right click ‘Recycle Bin’ icon and click open.

As you can see the two deleted files, to remove them permanently just click ‘Empty the Recycle Bin’ button.

Just click ‘yes’ when it asks for the confirmation.

D. Now, open ‘My Documents’ folder

Those two files which I deleted or those which get accidentally deleted can be recovered from ‘My Documents’ folder.

To open that click ‘Start’, ‘All Progams’, followed by the user profile and finally ‘My Documents’ as shown from steps 1-4.

E. Next, open properties of ‘My Documents’.

Just right click in empty white space in the ‘My Documents’ window and select ‘Properties’ from the menu as shown.

F. Next, click ‘Previous Versions’ button.

Click ‘Previous Versions’ tab as shown in step 1; it’ll show all the versions of the ‘My documents’ folder. Now, to recover the files, we need to restore the latest version.

So click the latest verison of My Documents in step 2 followed by ‘Restore’ button in step 3.

Click ‘Restore’ button when you are asked for the action confirmation.

G. Check the files recovered.

After clicking ‘Restore’ in this previous step two files will get recovered as shown above.

Finally we have succeeded in recovering files! No big issues even if they get deleted from the recycle bin!
